Sea Glass
Sea Glass is actually broken pieces of glass “tumbled” by the oceans current. Glass bottles and glass remnants from shipwrecks and houses claimed by natural disasters are major sources of Sea Glass found throughout the world. Fragments of broken glass mix with small seashells and stones just offshore. The ocean’s current tumbles the glass, seashells and rocks in offshore ridges and shell beds. The sharp edges of the glass become smooth over time and the saltwater causes a frosty surface to form on the glass. The Sea Glass then washes up on the beach and can be found in shell beds or scattered along the sand. The glass can be anywhere from 10 years to centuries old.
